COSEE SE Can Help You Develop a Broader Impact Plan That Fits Your Need
Level 1: SUPPORTING SCIENTIST
- Meet with a COSEE SE team member to discuss your proposal and plan your education/outreach strategy prior to proposal submission
- Participate in the selected strategy by planning and implementing a 4- 8 hr event
- Commit to 1-2 hours for evaluating the strategy and event with COSEE SE staff afterwards
- Examples:
- Ocean Awareness Day- Conduct a 6-8 hr event at an informal facility focused on your research including outreach presentations and supporting activities.
- Researcher as Educator- Work with a teacher and share your research in the classroom.
- Cart Program- Design and implement a cart program at an informal education facility.
- Public Lectures- Provide a one hour lecture on your research to various audiences utilizing an informal education facility.
- COSEE SE will assist and secure the venue, coordinate content supporting resources, advertise event
- Approximately $500-$1500 to cover COSEE SE time, rental space, travel, materials, etc
Level 2: COLLABORATING SCIENTIST
- Meet with a COSEE SE team member to discuss your proposal and plan your education/outreach strategy prior to proposal submission
- Participate in the selected strategy by planning and implementing 2-3 day nonresidential event;
- Commit to 2-3 hours of evaluating the strategy and event with COSEE SE staff
- Examples:
- Curriculum development workshop – Invite 1-2 teachers to create lessons and activities aligned to GA State Standards that support the funded research
- Teachers as Researchers – Support 1-3 teachers to assist with lab or field research
- COSEE SE will assist with recruitment and participant selection, with development and dissemination of deliverables, and with presentations of your model at professional meetings.
- Approximately $1500-$5000 to cover COSEE SE time, rental space, materials, stipends, travel, etc
Level 3: PARTNERING SCIENTIST
- Meet with a COSEE SE team member to discuss your proposal and plan your education/outreach strategy prior to proposal submission
- Participate in the selected strategy by planning and implementing a multi-day event
- COSEE SE will assist with recruitment and participant selection, with event planning and logistics, with development and dissemination of deliverables, and with presentations of your model at professional meetings.
- Commit to a complete program evaluation of the selected strategy with COSEE SE staff or COSEE SE evaluator.
- Example:
- Multi- day residential or nonresidential professional development workshop- Host an multi faceted workshop for 3 or more educators (formal and informal) focused on research areas and broader supporting topics that lasts several days.
- Teachers at Sea- Invite a teacher or two onboard a research vessel to assist with data collection and deck activities.
- Approximately $5,000 and up to cover COSEE SE time, boat time, facilities, materials, stipends, travel, etc.
