On March 17-19, 2010 the second Basic Observation Buoy workshop (BOB II) was held at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington Center for Marine Science, sponsored by NOAA’s Chesapeake Bay Office, SECOORA and COSEE SE.
The goal of this workshop was to review progress the introduction of BOB’s to high school and undergraduate students over the year and to advance the next generation of BOB design focusing on sensor instrumentation. Twenty-one workshop participants included sensor manufacturers, high school students, researchers, and university faculty. Participants advanced the BOB concept, outlined the future of small monitoring buoys, and developed regional strategies for outreach.
